British Telecomm have a long running programme to remove the old red telephone boxes which are no longer being used. BT decided to de-commission the box at Abinger Common on Abinger Lane and the Parish Council were given the chance to purchase the telephone box for £1.

We are delighted to announce this telephone box has been ‘adopted’ by a group of Abinger Common residents, keen to preserve the heritage of this iconic telephone box. BT have just completed the de-commissioning process and the Abinger Common Telephone Box Association, headed by Abinger Common resident Philp Rawlings, are now keen to get started on their project to re-furbish the telephone box.
